Viagra
Viagra: The performance boosting drug

As the title states, anti-doping authorities are becoming a bit worried that elite athletes are using the impotency drugs such as Viagra and Cialis to boost their performances - just not in the way they were intended, unfortunately.

Drugs such as viagra is just a brand name while its generic name is actually Sildenafil citrate, a compound which not only treats male erectile dysfunction but also aids the delivery of oxygen to muscles.

Viagra

It is thought that the help in delivery of oxygen to muscles could be beneficial for athletes in elite competition, at altitude or in polluted environments like the Beijing Olympics. And this might help explain the increasing traces of sildenafil in the urine tests of athletes.

While it can't be ruled out that some athletes might really be using the drug to boost sexual performance (erectile dysfunction typically affects elder males and not the young and fit athletic types), the reason why an athlete might be lacking sexual prowess is because of other doping agents they could be taking.

The World Anti-Doping Agency is already studying these claims but the outcome is unlikely to be heard until after the Beijing Olympic Games this year.

I don't see how running with a stiffy would shave milliseconds off a sprinter's time in the 100 metres dash! It might help with the photo finish though if that's what it came down to! What about swimming? Perhaps it will give 'buoyancy' a whole new meaning? [abc.net.au]

Chris Farley posing with ridiculous expression

Not the land, but the people.

We did it. We finally did it!

After years of hard work, of constant bacon 'n' egg rolls, sausage rolls, steak rolls and any other roll you might care to taste; neverending cascades of sticky date puddings with hefty dollops of cream, we finally did it.

Yahoo! news is celebrating with the news that Australia has finally surpassed the United States as the country with the highest proportion of obese people.

"The latest comprehensive obesity study has shown that 26 per cent of adult Australians - almost four million - are now obese, one million more than the last calculation in 1999.

The findings give Australia top spot as the world's most overweight nation, ahead of the notoriously super-sized Americans, who have a 25 per cent obesity rate."

It's just one percent, but it's one-percent that separates the winners (us) and the slender losers (the Americans). Ha ha! Ha!

Professor Simon Stewart, from the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, gave the following hopeful words:

"As we send our athletes off to the Olympics let's reflect on the fact that we would win the gold medal now in the world fat Olympics if there was such a thing."

Yes! We can only hope! We'll start petitions, campaigning for the Olympic committee to add 'fattiness' to the selection of sports. Chalk up another gold medal for Australia! Who'll come a-Waltzin' Matlida with me? Give me a second to finish this cheeseburger, and I'll be right with you.

Kids have powerful imagination, and they're easily fooled into believing what they're told. Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy become real people, with real backgrounds, causing some measure of devastation when they're told the truth.

John Cleese, former Monty Python-member and all-around funny guy, certainly knows the benefit of having a good laugh. This is a guy who thought it would be appropriate to return a dead parrot to the pet store.

Found on BoingBoing, this video of Cleese going to India to join one of their infamous laughing clubs, where people go, presumably, to have a laugh. There may be a hobby magazine related to the club, as well
