Are YOU ridiculously good looking?

Everyone I know have been models at one stage. Either I’m Derek Zoolander, surrounded by beautiful people, or we’re all being duped into thinking we’re more special than we really are.
My neighbour, Pam, in her sixties, recently got a “free photo shoot” with her husband, Richard. All they had to pay was $300 for printing purposes. She assured me that it was half price and worth every cent.
The photos were clichéd stills from Bold and the Beautiful. Vaseline-covered lens and make-up thick enough to stop carbon gas emissions from touching her skin. When Richard walked into the scene, there was white fur and bared shoulders. I’ll stop there. At least they liked it, is that all that matters?
My best friend did something similar five years ago. My boyfriend did a small modelling stint, at the request of an ex, he informs me.
At the start of uni I modelled for a small photography studio for a well-needed $20 an hour. I gave up after a couple of shoots, which was more to do with my attention (or lack of) to standing still for long periods of time than anything else.
While I think most of the people mentioned are gorgeous (who, me?), one has to ask, is modelling considered the new fifteen minutes in the spotlight?
Also, does this have something to do with us being more open with our lives post-internet?
