As if you already didn't know: McDonalds Hamburgers are synthetic

From time to time, I post frightening things on this blog, either deep-fried Twinkies or giant, 3-pound hamburgers. It's all a little bit of a laugh, and I get some sort of sick enjoyment at the idea that someone might actually be looking for health advice, and find an article about Twinkies.

Occasionally, though, I scare myself with what I post, and today is such a day.

Some clever health counselor bought a McDonalds Hamburger back in 1996, which, I assume you understand, is over 10 years ago.

Here's what it looks like today:

McDonalds Hamburger from 1996

It looks just like a McDonalds burger, with a patty and a bun. Why hasn't it decomposed? Why isn't it rotten?

"People always ask me - what did you do to preserve it ?

Nothing - it preserved itself.

Ladies, Gentleman, and children alike - this is a chemical food. There is absolutely no nutrition here.

Not one ounce of food value. Or at least value for why we are eating in the first place. "

Even more shocking is that the writer went to McDonalds in 2008 and bought a new burger, laid them side-by-side:

Which one is which? Where's the ketchup?

The real question is: how long will it last? Will it never biodegrade? Will it still taste as good in 100 years? If so, perhaps we should consider packing our soldiers and hikers with packs of McDonalds hamburgers.

someone should test it and see if it edible by edible i mean not full of deathly bacteria....... and someone should take a bite to see if it tastes the same, mind you that could be suicide.....

Wow.

I wonder will he keep it and bring it out in the next ten years to show any 'progress' it has made. Lord knows what the world will be up to by then though.

I reckon if you throw it in the microwave for a minute it would bring it back to its former glory... i use that term loosely, it would probably taste as shit as it originally did.

A great experiment is to find a shelf in a cool place where it won't attract bugs and buy an apple and a plain McDonalds burger (no sauce) and put them side by side and then come back each week and watch. Eventually the apple completely disappears and the burger stays the same, it just shrinks slightly from drying out. You should try it, it will freak you out!

YUMMY McDonalds - I think this is a great thing - the bits of burger that stay in my body will keep providing enjoyment for years to come for my intestines! Did u also know that they place crack in the Big Mac sauce to keep me hooked - I must have a fortnightly or monthly Mac attack.
AND - their new extra special avocado sauce is pure synthetic green spicey goo that does not even resemble the taste of avocado - but it still tastes nice too. Hehe. BTW - the old burger looks better - the new one looks burnt - is this a reversing of time - maybe they actually mature???

Hey maybe this is the real reason that Hollywood people don't seem to age like they used to...it's not plastic surgery, it's all the preservatives from McDonalds! One big flaw in that theory, they don't actually eat do they?

That's interesting, but I still find it hard to believe that the bun would not grow mouldy. The 'meat' itself may be synthetic but even the cheapest of bread rolls don't have that long a life!

Try the experiment Justicia, it has to be a cool very dry place and there must be no sauce on the burger. It doesn't grow mould - very scary.

WTF? The food system in America is defunct. Grow your own "Victory Garden" now and you'll have healthy nutritional food that also brings you pride knowing that you did it yourself. Buy local! Buy seasonal! Buy organic!!!!

I like their cheese burgers. You feel so great after eating two of them and then feel sick for 3 hours after as your body tries to reject the poison.
