Orble/Blogging is good for you
March 4th 2008 22:15
Researchers at Melbourne's Swinburne University of Technology has found that blogging can be good for your general well-being.
A two month study by the Victorian tertiary institution has found that regular blogging - or 'Orbling' as I like to call it - gives people the feeling of better social support and friendship networks than those who didn't blog on a regular basis.
The psychological benefits of blogging is lesser feelings of isolation; lower stress, anxiety and depression levels; greater satisfaction and appreciation of friendships (both online and in person) while also providing a great avenue for venting or expressing one's emotions as a way of coping.
While regular updating of one's personal web pages with information that invites others to comment is still beneficial, studies showed that bloggers which belonged to a group/community of like-minded individuals such as Orble reaped the most benefits.
The two researchers who conducted this investigation, James Baker and Professor Susan Moore, has already written two papers investigating the psychological benefits of blogging of which the first was published in the most recent issue of the journal CyberPsychology and Behaviour.
Baker and Moore said: "Blogs are potentially open to dimensions of social support, friendship, and positive interaction. Feedback from readers can serve as an acknowledgment of the author’s cognitions, emotions, and sense of self."
As Australia's largest and preeminent blogging community, Orble is a fantastic source of news, features, opinion, and entertainment amongst a vibrant community of writers and a high number of readers which currently exceeds 80,000 every day.
You are just minutes away from starting your own blog. To do that, click here, or you can learn more about what Orble has to offer before getting started here.

It's interesting to see scientific studies going into this, I'm sure this is an area that will be further studied in future.

I have orbled now for over a year and have to agree with the findings, although I would also be curious to read the negative aspects, perhaps less time with family - although compared to gaming, much more constructive and interactive at less - less isolating there too.
I really enjoy my blogging experience, and I find the constant practice of writing, genre's and styles is probably good for any writer.
There is also the hope that is fostered of eventually meeting orble friends when you, or they are travelling, that is also a big plus. It is always nice to have friends in distant cities, to add colour to visiting there and actually hooking up a wonderful experience.

James: Not necessarily a new post everyday. Just regularly. Read the article for some tips
Justicia: These studies are very interesting indeed. They are actually on-going so we should hear more in the near future.
Lilla: I haven't been on Orble for as long as you have, but I have noticed some of the benefits that you have discovered. Thanks for sharing your insights.
