Blueberries! Magical fruit that cure everything that's wrong with you!

April 21st 2008 08:15
blueberries looking delicious
I love blueberries. I love that dark, fragrant taste, the squish of the berries on my tongue, the colour that stains my tongue. I love eating them by the handful or even off the bush with my mouth, pretending that I'm a grumpy bear, preparing for the winter. Rawr.

But all of you out there, you're ruining my fun. With all the health benefits associated with blueberries in the past year, the prices have skyrocketed. People are jumping all over the magic blue, sucking on them for their magical antioxidants.

They're so magically delicious that they're curing people of just about everything. Some highlights:

Get rid of colon cancer AND control cholesterol!

Replace solar panels with blueberries! (What?)

Protect the nervous system from radiation!

The latest? Only that the fabulous blueberry can reverse Age-related memory problems!

"In addition to the new findings suggesting blueberries may provide a treatment for memory loss, additional research published last December in the Journal of Neuroscience suggests omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil could play an important role in preventing Alzheimer's disease."

Wow - that's incredible. Eating a single berry can actually cure Alzheimer's. That's a good berry.

Ok, ok, it's not true. It's a certain compound in blueberries have these properties, and scientists are working around the clock, trying to figure out a way to reduce it to it's essence, put it in pill form, then sell it to you for $79.95.

Everytime I hear the word blueberries I think of that horrible child in Willy Wonker who turned into one !! I don't think blueberries provided quite the same health benefits for her.
