What the Different Colours of Fruit & Vegetables Mean
We all know that fruit and vegies are a very colourful group of foods. From when we were children we learnt to associate red with the apple, yellow with the banana and of course the orange fruit was always easy to remember!
5-a-day has provided a list of colours of fruit and vegetables and their associated health benefits:
Blue/Purple Blueberries, plums, raisins and eggplants.
All contain phytochemicals, which are being studied for their antioxidant and anti-ageing properties.
Green Avocado, broccoli, peas and leafy greens.
Anti-cancer foods with phytochemicals.
White Bananas, garlic, artichoke and cauliflower.
Helps maintain good cholesterol levels and contains phytochemicals.
Yellow/Orange Pineapples, sweet potato, carrots, mangoes.
Contains Vitamin C and carotenoids (including vitamin A). Great for immune protection and vision health.
Red grapes, cherries and strawberries.
Maintains memory function & heart health with the Lycopene phytochemical, one of the most potent antioxidants and Anthocyanin, known to protect the body from UV damage.
All of these wonderful colourful foods are just dying to be eaten! If youre ever hungry for something mega-healthy and nutritious, make an awesome colourful salad with leafy greens and cherry tomatoes, or if you have a bit more time chop up and bake some pumpkin and sweet potato. If you just want something quick, do what I did yesterday go to the fridge and just get into a yummy red capsicum!

Yes it is interesting that certain colours relate to certain health benefits Anonymous. I especially like the fact that no matter what colour fruit/vegie you're eating there's something beneficial about it!
