Getting Married Makes You Less Depressed
The SMH’s Health & Science section published an article today reporting that “getting married enhances mental health, especially if you are depressed.” From a sample of 3066 people, researches in the US measured symptoms of depression (for example; not being able to sleep, or continuous sadness) - in the same people before and after their first marriages.
They found that depressed people managed a greater decrease in symptoms. Kristi Williams is an assistant professor of sociology at Ohio State University where the research was conducted. "Depressed people may be just especially in need of the intimacy ... the social support that marriage can provide," Williams said.
So, reiterating my slightly peeved post on Famous Quotes - don’t be shy guys and ask that slightly unhappy lovely lady to marry you. She may be a little depressed but according to this research there’s a good chance she’ll be happier after the wedding! (What woman wouldn’t be happy after a wedding anyway?!)
