Health Benefits Of Fish Oil Supplements

September 3rd 2008 01:30
Fish Oil Supplements

Fish oil supplements aka Omega 3 fatty acids provides the body with many health benefits, in particular, to some of the body's most vital organs - the heart, brain, and the nervous system.

This is because the fatty acids taken from deep sea, cold water fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel are the building blocks of the human brain, nervous system and essential to a healthy heart by regulating the levels of cholesterol in the body, amongst other things. According to many studies, fish oils have shown to increase the body's good cholesterol levels, as well as possibly stabilising the electrical system in heart cells, to prevent abnormal heart rhythms.

Blackmores Fish Oil

A new research just released lends further credibility to these claims with studies showing fish oil supplements can help patients with chronic heart failure.

While people should still try and incorporate proper seafood - at least two servings of fish per week - in their diet, this isn't always possible due to a variety of reasons thus making fish oil supplements a convenient and cost effective substitute for a seafood feast.

Besides its heart health benefits, fish oil supplements are also beneficial for the relief of conditions such as arthritis and psoriasis and may also reduce the risk of diseases ranging from childhood asthma to prostate cancer.

Health benefits of Eggplant

Eggplant

Their glossy purple skin and pear-shaped egg form makes eggplants a veggie that is hard to miss at the markets. Native to China and India and members of the Nightshade family which also includes potatoes, tomatoes and peppers, not many people know that eggplant is actually a fruit.

Some might find that liking eggplant to be an acquired taste, but I personally love them for its flavour and ability to absorb the flavour and juices of other ingredients. And also, its health benefits such as high fibre content, which helps our digestive process i.e. softens stool and also acts against coronary heart disease among other things.

Eggplant

Other nutritional values of eggplants include vitamins (in particular, C, as well as B1), proteins and minerals (potassium) and phytonutrients which act similarly as antioxidants. For example, flavonoids exhibit cancer fighting properties and phenolic compounds, such as caffeic and chlorogenic acid, are antioxidants. Nasunin helps prevent damage of cell membranes and blocking the creation of free radicals.

Eggplants also have anti-bacterial, diuretic effects due to its level of potassium which also plays a role in regulating blood pressure. Small traces of copper, magnesium and niacin can also be found.
