A Comparison: Honeydew Melon, Rockmelon and Watermelon
Yum! I tried a white/yellow honeydew the other day for the first time and it was so sweet. Even though my wild, overflowing fruit salad contained kiwi fruit, pineapple, strawberries, watermelon, mangoes, honeydew melon and peaches I think that the honeydew was the second sweetest - second to the pineapple of course, which was crazy!
The Australian Melon Association (no I’m not just making that up, there is such a society) says that melons are 90% water or more. The honeydew has no fat or cholesterol and virtually no sodium (no surprises there). But the honeydew has only 45% Vitamin C of the daily requirement whereas the rockmelon has 80% per serving. The rockmelon also beats the honeydew in Vitamin A content with 100% of the daily requirement where honeydew loses out at only 2%.
The watermelon comes last in relation to nutritional content and has more than double the sugar of the honeydew (12g per serving) and rockmelon (11g per serving) at 25g per serving. Although the serving size of the watermelon is double that of the other melons you tend to eat more of it because it’s so watery and easy to throw down.
So the bottom line is; if you are really thinking about your nutrition go for the rockmelon, but if you fancy something different and slightly more exotic go for the honeydew. And if you're so excited that you just want to get into a huge piece of fruit with a spoon, go for the watermelon. Oh, by the way, please don’t even consider the Glycaemic Index of these foods because it’s not pretty… but in my book it’s ok because it’s fruit! Rock(melon) on!

Brain health includes good nutrition and I've mentioned that on previous posts.
Using MS Paint as a tool I am all for maintaining brain health, function and memory so I am always interested in what you have to say.
I hope we can show a mutual interest in our blogging and to that end you'll always get my votes.
A succinct and informative post, well illustrated.
There's a lot of bloggers on Orble writing on nutrition, I'll be keeping my eye on all of them.
