The Inhalation of Nail Dust

The Inhalation of Nail Dust
Now for something completely random…
The inhalation of nail dust is a severe problem facing podiatrists (foot doctors) as allergic reactions to the dust can occur. Affected podiatrists may develop symptoms of conjunctivitis, rhinitis, asthma and coughing.
One way of reducing inhalation of nail dust is by using special air purifiers, filters and extractors to remove the nail dust aerosols from the environment.
Salon workers are also exposed to high amounts of nail dust in their jobs (not to mention those very strong fumes that make your head spin if you just walk past a salon). They can also reduce the inhalation of nail dust by wearing dust masks.
There seems to be no evidence of long term risks associated with nail dust inhalation apart from possibly developing an allergy. And, most of us who use the odd nail file at home needn’t worry about the small amount of dust that accumulates.
