What is lemon detox diet?

Lemon Detox Diet

With the weather getting warmer by the day and summer fast approaching, it makes sense that many people are trying to get back into shape and lose the excess 'spare tyre' around the waist from one too many cups of hot chocolate over the winter months.

So, now that you have made up your mind to get in shape for summer to look all buff in a pair of budgie smugglers or sexy string bikini, it's time to work out which type of diet would most suit your lifestyle and needs.

Hot String Bikini

One type of diet, most recently popularised by singer Beyonce Knowles, is the Lemon Detox Diet which she used to get in shape for her role in the 2006 movie Dream Girls.

This diet is essentially part of the Master Cleanse which involves no consumption of solid foods but instead, drinking a concoction of lemon juice, maple syrup, water (bottled) and cayenne pepper.

By consuming this mixture, the body is said to be detoxified as the drink eliminates toxins and congestion that have built up in the body over time while still delivering essential vitamins and minerals and some sugars to the body.

Budgie Smuggler

Typically speaking, the recommended duration of this diet is a minimum of 10 days to allow the body to adapt, detoxify and thus resulting in weight loss. It is, however, very common for people to stay on the diet for extended periods of time.

Some critics claim the diet to be 'just another fad diet' with starvation as the main contributing factor to any weight loss. Thus, short-term weight loss will be apparent but will lead to long(er) term weight gain plus other side effects.

As with most diets, some work and some don't and while this lemon detox diet has proven results, results may vary.

these diets probably work, but are as appealing as having hot iron on ones behind all day long.

The Lemon Detox Diet does wonders for those whom follw the program. I did it for 8 days and never felt this good in years. Post detox I have kept the 6kg off and I am so energetic and can easily say no to fatty foods.

Hi peoples,

I too tried the Lemon Detox. I must say that I was pretty suprised at the results after only 5 days. I wanted in continue but I had a big fat greek wedding and I had to put it on hold. I think thats the good thing about this program. You can set it to your social needs.

Regards,

Mia

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm glad that, for some, this particular diet worked for you. It's always nice to hear success stories.

There aren't any foods that you're supposed to eat per se, but you can't go wrong with a healthy and balanced diet.

That's no good! This goes to show that not all diets are suitable for everyone. I hope you're feeling better now.

Hi Arnold,
The most probable reason why you felt sick after 6 days and the fact that you put weight on is because you did not eliminate properly. The key to the detox is elimination using the senna tea and sea salt flush. Symptoms will persist if the elimination process is lacking and will cause you to put on weight.
This is the most common mistake people make on the program.
Its simple to do but you have to do it properly.

Just wondering... What about all our RDI's that arent included in this diet! What about iron, dietary fibre etc? Surely it must not be good to go without these for long periods of time... We need these things for normal bodily functioning...

Well I managed 4 days, and am now in the process of coming off the diet.
I dont really feel any different to before, except hungry!! I have tried everything - even adding extra syrup to my drink - it only fills me up for about 20 mins, and then I am so hungry I'm doubled over in pain.
I have been doing everything to the letter, including the salt water & senna tea. I feel fine, but cant handle being STARVING for so long.
I cant wait to CHEW something again. haha.
Has anyone else felt hungry while on the diet?? I know its supposed to keep me full, but just didn't work for me.

I completed the 7 day lemon detox in May 2008, it was a great challenge to me as I was a big eater love my food, beer, wine and home made cakes, but I made a positive move to give it a go after the 3rd day it got easier and easier and I started to enjoy it I placed my detox drink in the fridge so it was like a iced lemon tea for me, I did all the steps they told me the salt, lemon drink, water and cup of tea at night.

The results amazing weighted 84.5kg when I finished was 79kg, I kept all the weight off by healthy eating little exercise and less beer,

I had so much more energy and joined a gym and tried to attend at least 3-5 sessions a week. I dropped my weight again from healthy eating and exercise from 79kg to 75kg over 2 months.

It’s that time again I have just finished my 7 day lemon detox again being the 16th September 08... so much easier the second time around ... I have dropped my weight down from 75kg to 71.2 kg so over the moon.

Yea

The next 2 months will work hard to break under the 69KG weight range and then in December will do the 14 day detox which will be great I am already looking forward to it...

More energy and feel fantastic and just gives me a little push in the right direction..

Good luck everyone..

I am on day 3 of the program, and must admit it is a challenge, but have surprised myself by sticking to it this long. I have already lost 2.5kg (and I'm not really overweight). So I have gone from 69.5kg to 67kg. Am planning on just doing the 5 days this time, so will be interested to see what the final result is. I am OK with the not eating thing until I see or smell food...I disappear to the shower when my partner eats! Wish me luck for the last 2 days!

hey guys,

I'm about to start the detox and I take a daily multi-vitamin. Can I continue to take it or will it have a negative result on the overall detox?

thanks in advance!

If you read the book that goes with the starter kit, it says that taking any additional vitamins may impede progress, but I'm skeptical that a multi-vitamin could make a lot of difference to success or failure. I went on this detox in May, after watching my friend do it - she lost 5 kgs, and sung the diet's praises. I was hungry for the first few days, (harder when you are still preparing really yummy food for your family!), and felt really cold some of the time. From about Day 3-5, I got quite bad headaches at about 3am, and even though the book says don't take anything for it (just "use lavender oil"), I took Panadol. I don't believe it made any difference to my outcome at all. I did have a lot more energy come Day 5 and it definitely got easier. I lost 5 kgs too and felt great. But I fell back into bad habits, and the kgs did come back - very gradually. My friend has kept off all of her weight. I am on Day 8 of detox again, and it's been easier this time round. I have lost 3-4 kgs so far, and will definitely go to 10 days, but I hope not to go through it again. What this does is hopefully re-program your thinking about portion size, the kinds of food you've been eating, and how much exercise you get. I know where I fell down last time - I got complacent - and hopefully will get my act together this time - to think before I put something in my mouth, and move a lot more!

Forgot to say that I just could not stomach (even the thought of) the salt water drink and did not use - just one senna tea night and morning. It still worked for me.

If you really can't handle the zero food, like me, eat one meal a day, just make it steamed veges/fruit and a small piece of grilled chicken. It makes the hunger easier to manage, and you still get to eat a meal with the family.

The results are a bit slower, but Rome wasn't built in a day...

I've heard both negative and positive results about this diet. I'm looking to do it for myself but i'm also a bit scared that I'll just end up being one of those 'Don't do this it didn't work!' kind of people.
I'm willing to give it a go, because my body hasn't been responding the way it used to over the past couple of months. That's the main reason, and the weight loss would probably be a bonus!
But I'm just wondering.. what does this laxative tea taste like? And i'm confused as to which one i'm supposed to be getting.
and is it a big requirement to use bottled water?

Just finished day one and apart from a ripper of a headache, feeling sick in the tummy, being exhausted, feeling waterlogged and gagging every time I have to "skull" the liquid it went well. Is this normal? Wish me luck - 9 days to go - I'm wanting to hang in there...

Hey all. Well im on my 3rd day of the detox and still starving hungry. Im trying so hard to hang in there cause i really want to lose the weight but it is sooo hard. I have read that lots of people dont feel hungry, however i can assure you, all i think about is food... I will stick it out for 2 more days and hope the food cravings go away soon.

I am on day 6 of the program, first two days were horrible, the headaches, the hunger, the fatigue, and I was so cold. I woke up on day 3 and felt excellent, not even hungy! I have lost 4 kg already. I am planning to stay on it for 14days, Is this safe? i read somewhere that a woman did it for 20 days! its just so easy and effective for weight loss, When do I need to stop?

On second day, I have had a slight headache all day but not really hungry just craving eating as I often eat out of boredom, I have not given in to temption yet, I have made it this far so Im not going to cave. I'm hoping to get to 10 days. my only fear is that the weight will come back on double like after most diets ( so I have heard as this is my first time dieting). Actually the eating part is easy to control I really struggled day one with not going to a freinds and have a sharing a bottle of wine.
