Pain killers:The New Killer in the neighborhood Part-1

Every once in a while we wake up on the news reporting the death of a celebrity from painkiller overdose. Many famous celebrities executed out their lovely lives with prescription Analgesics overdose. Marilyn Monroe, Heath Ledger, Elvis Presley. And now the latest victim of drug overdose... Michael Jackson.May be it is due to the anxiety ridden lives, poor eating habits, harsh working conditions, and and keeping up with the high expectations that made those drugs the constant companions of high profile celebrities..
Prescription drugs is like any other drugs have serious side effects ,and it need to be taken EXACTLY as the doctor prescribed them and no one should take more that the recommended dose for weight and age . Prescription Drug overdose now ranks as a leading cause of preventable death, second only to motor-vehicle accidents.
Some painkillers like narcotics can lead to addiction which is very serious habit. In fact, depression, insomnia, poor relationships, and brain damage can all occur as a result of this habit.
Anther issue that is commonly done is mixing drugs.Whenever two or more drugs are taken concurrently, there is a chance that there will be an interaction among the drugs. The interaction may increase or decrease the effectiveness and/or the side effects of the drugs. It also may result in a new side effect. That's why Physicians need to be given a complete list of all of the drugs that you are using or have used within the last few weeks. This should include over-the-counter medications, vitamins, food supplements, and herbal remedies. Since the frequency of drug interactions increases with the number of medications, work with your doctor to eliminate unnecessary medications and decrease the doses of the drugs that could of has increase in effectiveness due to another drug interaction.
In Michael Jackson case, sources close to Jackson say he had been taking prescription painkillers including anti-anxiety drugs Xanax, Zoloft and painkiller Demerol in recent months. Those are very risky combination of medications . Each one of them can cause central ,respiratory and cardiac depression, this IS VERY ODD as he was only 110 pounds, HE DO NOT NEED as much TO SLEEP, he should be knocked out easily .
And what I FIND IT VERY strange in the whole Jackson death dilemma is that he was taking Demerol . Demrol is narcotic pain relievers. It is similar to morphine. it should not be given to someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with a narcotic pain medicine.it used with care to some one with lung heart or liver disease and some time we do not give it to them if the condition is advanced . But the most important issue that Demerol is not commonly abused, because it is hard to get outside of a hospital mostly in ICU SETTING . The effects of demerol are felt within 15 minutes and remain for 2-4 hours....how he could of receive it ?!!..
DOCTOR must NOT BE VERY GENEROUS WHEN prescribing Analgesics drugs. Instead THEY should be given and administered only as needed, also doctors must discuss the prescribed drugs interactions . If patient needed more she /he should come back for further evaluation and investigations. And whenever drug abuse is confirmed patient need to be offered treatment programs at rehab centers may include art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and counseling which encourages a healthy lifestyle. In the words of Michael Jackson, let us "heal the world and make it a better place. For you and for me and the entire human race."
