Portfolio Partners Spring Cycle
August 22nd 2006 06:01
The Portfolio Partners Spring Cycle is on Sunday October 22nd and promises a great day out, riding from St Leonard’s over the Sydney Harbour Bridge (which will be closed) to Sydney Olympic Park.
The wheeled equivalent of the City2Surf involves 10,000 entrants who may choose to ride either 5km, 10km, 20km 40km or 50km - so practically anyone with a pair of functioning legs and a set of lungs can get into it. It’ll cost you $40 for entry, and if you don’t own a bike just go out and hire one! Just imagine riding over the Sydney Harbour Bridge with no traffic!
It’s a safe ride with four rest stops along the way which will be serviced with water stations, bike mechanical assistance, food and drink stalls and limited massage services. The roads, crossings and pathways will be supervised by the RTA, NSW Police, Volunteer Rescue Association, Sydney Olympic Park Authority and trained event volunteers.
The event isn’t a race, and the ability to choose a short distance such as 5km can make it a family event. The website says “The course is designed with the ability of all cyclists in mind, from beginners to the most experienced. It is not hilly and is easily ridden by even novice cyclists”.
So visit the Portfolio Partners Spring Cycle website and check it out. I’ll be there with bells on (no pun intended - actually I'll have my original bike bell plus an air horn!) and I hope all the City2Surf blogger crowd will participate too! And if you don’t do it for the racing heart rate and adrenalin rush or to reach that difficult fitness goal of riding the whole 50km (without an ambulance), then do it for the free goodies bag at the end!
