Mummy, Why Do I Have Hair Down There?
The bodily inquisitive of our readers may have once wondered, ‘Ok, I get that I have hair on my head, but what is the purpose of all this extra body hair?’ Here are some answers for your hairy pleasure…
Nose Hair
Most people know this one. Nose hair filters out dust and dirt from the nasal passage.
Eyebrow Hair
The reason why eyebrow hair evolved is simple – to stop the sweat that drips from your head (possibly when running for your life from a sabre-toothed tiger!) getting into your eyes and interfering with your vision.
Pubic Hair/Underarm Hair
It is thought that humans have this hair to retain pheromone scents which we transmit to others. These are usually subconsciously detected by receptive members of the opposite sex. Other theories include: keeping the genitals warm, or protecting them from the friction of intercourse.
